Chants of Pablo! Pablo! and Kanye! Kanye! filled the night air outside of New York’s Webster Hall in the wee-hours of June 6. The main event, as yet unannounced as of 1 a.m. local time: a surprise performance by Kanye West. Though a late cancelation put a major damper to all the excitement.
The rapper booked the last-minute show as a makeup for Governors Ball, which canceled its day-three lineup due to inclement weather. His surprise Hot 97 Summer Jam appearance was followed by cryptic tweets of a to-be-announced venue. But once word started spreading of a Webster Hall gig, thousands swarmed on 11th Street in the East Village, with one observer noting “near-riot” conditions, with people on top of cars and shouting “F— Gov Ball.” Said a witness: “It’s pandemonium.” source: Yahoo Music
